Hysterectomy Claims

It is estimated that as many as one in 5 women will undergo a hysterectomy in their lifetime, both on the NHS and privately. The procedure is carried out for a range of reasons from heavy periods, fibroids, endometriosis, prolapse, cancer and postpartum haemorrhage, so when surgery brings about more suffering rather than alleviating the problem, the impact on a woman is huge.

If you have experienced unforeseen side effects or injury from a negligent hysterectomy procedure you will be entitled to make a hysterectomy claim.

What is a Hysterectomy?

A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the womb (uterus). A hysterectomy may be total, that is removing the whole of the womb and the cervix; it may be sub-total, that is removing the womb but leaving the cervix intact. In addition to the hysterectomy, the ovaries and the fallopian tubes may also be removed, this is called a hysterectomy with bi-lateral salpingo oophorectomy.

The majority of women who have a hysterectomy will be over 40 because it is non-reversible and younger women may still want to have children. Being an invasive procedure there is high risk of complications caused by negligent practices, such as:

  • Urinary incontinence from bladder or bowel damage
  • Infections from malpractice during surgery
  • Ureter damage
  • Thrombosis from lack of aftercare

How Hysterectomy Compensation can help

Compensation can help cover the financial losses incurred as a result of your surgery. Perhaps your recovery time has been increased because of corrective surgery that could have been avoided and you have been unable to return to work.

Childcare costs may be mounting on top of medical bills for private treatment  –  compensation can relieve some of the burden of increasing outgoings and help you look towards the future.

Each situation is unique but once we know your circumstances we will be in a better position to explain how you can be benefited by compensation.
