Failed Vasectomy Claims

When a family decide that their family is complete and they no longer want any more children, they may turn to permanent contraceptive methods, like a vasectomy to prevent further conception.

Statistics say that the procedure is 99% effective and safe, so when a wrongful birth occurs as a result of a negligent failure, those affected will be entitled to make a failed vasectomy claim.

What is a Vasectomy?

A vasectomy is the male equivalent of a female sterilisation – a permanent surgical procedure where the tubes that carry sperm from a man’s testicles out of the penis are cut, blocked or sealer with heat to prevent conception. The man will still ejaculate semen as normal but it will contain no sperm so a woman’s eggs cannot be fertilised.

The procedure itself is very straightforward and is performed in around 15 minutes. The vas deferens tubes that carry the semen are cut and sealed, either by tying or sealing them with using a heated instrument called a diathermy.

A small incision is made on each scrotum so after the operation the man is likely to experience some bruising and swelling, and may experience ongoing pain of some degree in the area, but this pain can also be the result of nerve damage or infection caused by negligent surgery.

Sterilisation reversals are not always successful or funded by the NHS and unless the procedure is carried out within 10 days of the initial vasectomy, the chances of fathering a child reduced significantly.

How failed Vasectomy Compensation can help

Parents who experience an unwanted pregnancy carry a huge burden as they decide whether to continue with the pregnancy or to undergo a termination.

A new addition to a family will also involve financial planning, and parents will have to readdress their lifestyle if they had written more children out of their minds.

Compensation can help towards covering these costs should a wrongful birth have occurred, or if a negligent surgical procedure caused lasting damage to your health, you will be in a better position to compensate any financial losses.
