Rhinoplasty Claims

Rhinoplasty surgery, or a ‘nose job’ as it is more commonly known, is not just for those wanting to change the physical appearance of their nose for vanity, often those who have breathing problems will also undergo the surgery.

If you have suffered medical negligence during your rhinoplasty surgery our solicitors can help you to make a rhinoplasty claim, whatever the circumstances.

What is Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Rhinoplasty is available on both the NHS and privately, depending on the reason for the surgery.

The cosmetic procedure can make all manner of alterations to the nose, elongating, reducing its width, altering the tip of the nose, fixing bumps. Rhinoplasty is designed to re-proportion the central feature of the face, to give a more pleasing aesthetic.

One of the reasons for its popularity is the lack of a visible scar as most of the work is generally done inside the nose.

Despite the obvious lack of scarring patients will still need to endure some heavy bruising and swelling while recovering.

A splint is inserted into the nose after rhinoplasty and kept in for between seven to 10 days afterwards, while the nose is well braced with bandages. It is usually at least six months post-op that the full results of the surgery become visible.

To aid a successful recovery, doctors should advise you on what to do at home and provide patients with an extensive aftercare programme.

Common complications with Rhinoplasty Surgery

As with any surgery there are always inherent risks, which should be thoroughly discussed with the patient beforehand.

This type of surgery should always be carried out by someone with extensive knowledge and experience of the ear, nose and throat to minimise the likelihood of complications.

Some of the complications that can occur with rhinoplasty include:

  • Injury to the septum
  • Nasal blockages from swelling
  • Adverse reaction to anaesthetic
  • Nerve damage
  • Breakdown of skin tissue (necrosis)
  • Infections
