Paramedic Negligence Claims

At times when we are in need of urgent medical attention we put our trust in paramedics. Often the first on the scene of an emergency, paramedic response is crucial and could affect the outcome of a person’s life.

When the standard of care offered in an ambulance or once the patient arrives at hospital is compromised, whether from delayed treatment or any other failure, a patient’s condition may worsen and could prove fatal.

If the treatment that you received from a paramedic caused your injury to be considerably worse than before, or lead to the fatality of a loved one – you have grounds for a paramedic negligence claim.

There are several circumstances that can result in a paramedic negligence claim, such as:

  • Failure to immediately respond to an emergency call-out
  • Late arrival at the scene of an incident or hospital
  • Delayed diagnosis, misdiagnosis or treatment
  • Failure to medicate a patient at the scene
  • A patient being told they do not need to visit hospital for their injuries
  • Negligent care that worsens a patient’s condition, such as spinal injuries
  • Not having a full kit either within the ambulance or to hand

Common Paramedic Negligence Injuries

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but some of the injuries that can happen as a result of medical negligence by paramedics can include:

  • Brain damage from failure to perform an Airway, Breathing, Circulation (ABC) assessment or administer oxygen
  • Spinal cord injuries if the spine is not stabilised correctly after a serious injury
  • Blood loss from wounds not being treated promptly
  • Allergic reactions from incorrect medication
  • Injuries from tourniquets being left in situ for too long

Children who have suffered an injury as a result of negligent paramedic treatment are in a position to make a compensation claim up to age 21. We also specialise in dealing with compensation claims for these types of cases and would be happy to discuss this with you.

How to make a Paramedic Negligence Claim

Errors by paramedics can lead to physical trauma but we also understand the deeper, psychological effects that can arise from a breach of trust on this scale. If you have been affected by the negligent actions of a paramedic our solicitors can help you to make a paramedic negligence claim.

With claims of this kind there is a three year limitation period so we urge you to contact us as soon as your health has been compromised.
