Repetitive Strain Injury Claims

A Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) is caused by any working environment where an employee is asked to carry out repetitive work, either in an office or repetitive manual work.

What is Repetitive Strain Injury?

A Repetitive Strain Injury is the term used to describe any pain or discomfort caused to muscles, nerves and tendons by repetitive movement in the workplace.

Types of Repetitive Strain Injury

WRULD is the term used to describe some of the most common types of RSI.

WRULD stands for Work Related Upper Limb Disorders and is an umbrella term for all repetitive strain injuries that occur in the upper limbs of the body.

Some of the most common types of RSI are:

Bursitis

With pain being its main symptom the disorder can affect most joints in the body including elbows, ankles and the knee. Bursitis that occurs because of an infection is known as septic bursitis.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

This condition affects the hands and fingers, causing pain, parathesia (pins and needles) and a burning sensation.

Dupuytrens

A syndrome that causes fingers to bend towards the palm due to small growths forming on the connective tissues in the fingers.

Miner’s Knee

Symptoms of miner’s knee are swelling around the kneecap, which can be red or warm to the touch if it comes infected.

Tenosynovitis

A common injury that is caused by the tendons being strained repetitively, side effects include inflamed tendons.
